Who We Are

Little Gems Intervention Services are committed to offering the best quality service to the Special needs community within South Africa. As a leading specialist care provider in the Gauteng area, we have established Oak Haven which is a specialized facility, including a Learning center, Residential/boarding and Respite Care for Children and Young Adults with learning and physical Disabilities

Oak Haven is open all year round and offer places to children and young adults, with complex needs, also known as special needs, these include severe and complex, profound and multiple learning difficulties, language and communication impairments, Epilepsy, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Behaviour Disturbance, Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome.

Founded by Kerry Hackeson who is originally from the UK, she has over 30 years of experience in the field of Early intervention and behavioural issues. Kerry is the mother of a special needs child and has established and managed a successful residential care facility in Dubai UAE whilst she was living there for 15 years.

Little Gems is passionate about offering the latest up to date staff training to be able to offer the highest quality of care. All Our staff attend training courses on First Aid, Fire prevention, Moving and handling and our in house 6 month training course.


Oak Haven offers 3 different services,

Day Care

Our Learning center, Acorn Cottage, allows our children to discover their own potential through a holistic approach while offering the highest quality care.
  • From 8am to 4pm R4 500 per month excluding food
  • From 8am to 4pm R4 950 per month including food
  • Monday to Friday R250 per day
  • Saturday and Sunday R275 per day
Fees paid 6 months in advance will be entitled to a 5% discount.

Residential Boarding

A flexible service open throughout the year offering a level of support that you may not be able to provide in your own home.

Every family is different but factors that often tip the balance include special condition that needs constant exhausting care and supervision, the presence of other very needy children in the family and or the absence of a partner to share the load.
  • R13 000 per month
Fees paid 6 months in advance will be entitled to a 5% discount.

Short Breaks

Also known as respite care and is offered as a flexible service offering parents the break they need.

Available from just one night, a few weeks, or a regular weekly schedule and allows you to take time off while your loved one is in someone else's care. Time off is essential to maintaining a balanced life.
  • Monday to Thursday R500 per night
  • Friday to Sunday R650 per night
You can choose the number of nights you would like subject to availability.

Once Off Administration and Assessment fee R2000 (non refundable).

Our service follows the eight intrinsic principles of dignity, privacy, independence, rights, choice, safety, equality, and fulfillment. We aim to understand and meet each individual’s personal, emotional, social, religious and cultural needs.
